Housing Programs for Veterans

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), offers two specialized voucher programs to help end veteran homelessness in Kentucky.

Program Details

Both programs are referral-based. Select a program below to learn more about its specific eligibility and referral process.

VETT (Veterans Emerging Towards Transition)

KHC has dedicated housing assistance for up to 100 homeless Kentucky veterans through the VETT Program. This program provides Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) for qualified homeless veterans in the 87 counties KHC serves under the HCV Program.

Eligibility To be eligible for the VETT Program, the veteran must meet at least one of the four conditions of homelessness listed on the Homeless Veteran Certification Form. Applicants must also meet the qualifications for the HCV program.

Veterans are defined as persons who served in the armed forces, regardless of discharge status. To be eligible for the VETT Program, veterans do not have to qualify for VA benefits.

For Referral Agencies

The VETT Program referral process is as follows:

  • Agencies work with the veteran to complete the Homeless Veteran Certification.
  • Upon receipt of the Homeless Veteran Certification, KHC will contact the agency for completion of documents needed to determine eligibility.
  • The completed forms should be submitted to KHC by email at hcvvett@kyhousing.org.

VASH (Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing)

KHC and HUD have also partnered with the VASH program, another initiative to end veteran homelessness in Kentucky. This program combines HCV rental assistance with VA-provided case management and supportive services.

Eligibility and Referral VASH eligible families are homeless veterans. The Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) will refer VASH-eligible families to KHC for the issuance of vouchers. KHC does not accept direct referrals for this program.
