Single-Family Development

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) supports two single-family development activities: new construction and homeowner-occupied rehabilitation.

These efforts are possible through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Kentucky’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF).

Funding and Applications

KHC hosts open award competitions, annually, for nonprofits, including Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs), through two separate applications. Developers may use these funds for new construction, acquisition, rehab, resale, or owner-occupied repair.

Programs

Single-family homes built or rehabilitated with the assistance of HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds must comply with required income restrictions (80 percent Area Median Income or below) and follow certain design requirements, established by KHC. Likewise, homes built or rehabilitated with AHTF must serve households at or below 60 percent Area Median Income and follow the same design requirements.

Under the HOME Program, CHDOs receive a special designation, granted through application by KHC, which allows them to develop more affordable housing.
