VETT Vouchers
Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is taking steps to end veteran homelessness in Kentucky. The KHC Board of Directors approved dedicated housing assistance for up to 100 homeless Kentucky veterans through the new Veterans Emerging Towards Transition (VETT) Program. This effort supports the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness, announced by First Lady Michelle Obama in June 2014.
Through the VETT Program, KHC has designated a preference for 100 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) for qualified homeless veterans in the 87 counties KHC serves under the HCV Program. This special assistance will help qualified veterans pay for housing and ultimately reduce the number of homeless veterans in Kentucky. Through KHC, local service providers will coordinate the completion of certification checklists to be used as referral tools to qualify homeless veterans for the housing assistance.
The VETT Program referral process is as follows:
The completed forms should be submitted to KHC by fax to 888-512-3952 or or email to hcvvett@kyhousing.org.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for the VETT Program, the veteran must meet at least one of the four conditions of homelessness listed on the Homeless Veteran Certification Form. Applicants must also meet the qualifications for the HCV program.
- For the purpose of HUD's goal to end veteran homelessness, veterans are defined as persons who served in the armed forces, regardless of discharge status. To be eligible for the VETT Program, veterans do not have to qualify for VA benefits.
- VETT Vouchers through KHC are available for veterans living in the 87 counties in which KHC serves. If you are a veteran in a county not served by KHC, please contact your local Public Housing Authority to determine if they have established a VETT Voucher Program.
If you are a veteran in need of housing assistance, you must have a copy of your DD-214 to verify your veteran status. You can get a copy of your DD-214 at www.ebenefits.va.gov. Please note, site access requires registration. After receiving your DD-214, please contact your local resource agency, which can be found in the Community Resource Guide.
