NOTICE OF CHANGE IN APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE
Kentucky Housing Corporation administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 87 of Kentucky’s 120 counties. In the remaining 33 counties, the program is administered by area housing authorities. This program provides rental assistance to thousands of qualifying Kentuckians. Because HUD’s funding allocation supports a limited number of housing choice vouchers, the state’s large demand for assistance has again created a long waiting list for those applying to the program. Therefore, effective January 1, 2008, as was the case in 2004, the waiting list will close. When the waiting list reopens, it will be announced in the local newspaper, through public service announcements and on Kentucky Housing’s Web site at www.kyhousing.org.

A voucher provides rental assistance and allows recipients to locate and rent a house, duplex, apartment or mobile home on their own, as long as the dwelling meets the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's housing guidelines. Vouchers are available throughout Kentucky. Local housing authorities administer the Section 8 program in some areas and you must apply to them. For counties administered by the Kentucky Housing Corporation, you can apply on-line to the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.
