Section 8 Rental Assistance Waiting List to Open in 87 Counties
Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) has announced the waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program or Section 8 Rental Assistance will begin accepting applications at 12 midnight on Friday, July 1, 2011, until 12 midnight, Sunday, July 31, 2011 in the 87 counties (see below) in which KHC administers the program.
The waiting list for Section 8 in these 87 counties will be open, each year, for the months of July and January. In previous years, the list would open and close based on number of responses. Applicants who wish to receive rental assistance from KHC must choose one of the listed counties.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program allows participants to locate and rent a house, duplex, apartment, or mobile home on their own using the voucher, as long as the dwelling meets the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing guidelines. The housing assistance stays with the participant. KHC receives funding from HUD, which is used to pay rent to owners on behalf of the program participants.
The preapplication to receive Section 8 assistance will be available on KHC’s Web site at www.kyhousing.org at 12 midnight on July 1. Applicants may also request the preapplication by calling one of Kentucky Housing’s offices after July 1. Residents of eastern Kentucky may call toll-free (866) 208-6525 or TTY 711; western Kentucky residents may call toll-free (866) 855-7317 or TTY 711; and residents of central Kentucky may call toll-free (877) 552-7368, or TTY 711.
