The Simply Home exhibit was curated and designed by KHC staff as part of an overarching strategy responding to a need to build awareness and transform attitudes about why affordable housing matters, showcasing real faces of affordable housing. Affordable housing is about creating good neighbors, building strong communities, and simply bringing everyone home. This 24x36-foot exhibit travels the state and includes calls to action. A virtual site was created for everyone to experience the exhibit.
To increase first mortgage financing to help minority and immigrant populations, KHC sought to identify potential partners in the state in order to form a collaborative partnership that connects referral agencies working directly with the target minority and immigrant populations in Kentucky. This collaborative solution is holistic and replicable in reaching new populations and encouraging new production.
KHC developed a new Business Planning Scorecard that transformed qualitative reporting to a more quantitative, visual report on defined metrics tied to the KHC’s corporate strategies. This format is replicable and adaptable to fit any organization that strives to meaningfully engage, measure, and monitor performance.
KHC's key activities were strategized and connected with purpose—to approach housing, coupled with support services in new ways, to increase affordable, replicable, innovative housing solutions for underserved and growing populations.
By instituting a new asset management model for compliance review scoring process and impact reviews with improved communication, the Corporation’s ability to monitor the health of each of our properties has been significantly improved. This model enables the Corporation to make well-informed decisions on funding projects and averting issues before they happen.
There are creative opportunities across the United States to revitalize abandoned school structures and create affordable, low- and mixed-income homes that residents can be proud to live in. Having a safe place to call home can be transformative to both families living successfully in these units and to communities by making old, forgotten, and abandoned structures revitalized with new purpose and renewing blighted areas.
Riverport Landings is an innovative community that integrates a broad spectrum of residents, providing stable housing to seniors, families, and youth coupled with community services, neighborhood retail, and recreation that helps spur commercial development in the neighborhood. Community centers and park are excellent resources for those living in the community and surrounding areas.
Riverport Scholar House campus will include a Family Scholar House educational services center that will serve not only residential families and youth emancipating from the foster care system, but also neighbors and residents from the other components of the development. Other state housing agencies can replicate this education/housing model and help a large, underserved population of youth exiting foster care work toward self-sufficiency, earning a degree, and living successfully.
